Services

Individual Psychotherapy

Session Fee: $230

Session Length: 50 minutes

Private psychotherapy is an investment in understanding and altering long-standing life patterns. To maintain clinical independence and provide deep, unhurried care, my practice operates as a private billing service.

Medicare Rebates (Better Access Scheme)

As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW), my services are recognized by Medicare Australia under the Better Access initiative.

  • GP Referral: If you obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your General Practitioner, you may be eligible to claim a Medicare rebate for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year.

  • Rebate Amount: The current Medicare rebate for In-Person and Online Psychotherapy provided by an AMHSW is $89.50 per session.

  • Out-of-Pocket Cost: With a standard session fee of $230, your net out-of-pocket gap fee is $140.50 per session.

Note: You do not need a GP referral to book an appointment if you intend to pay privately or claim through select private health funds.

Systemic Family Therapy

Session Fee: $345
Session Length: 90 minutes

Systemic Family Therapy looks beyond the individual to consider the relationships, patterns and wider contexts in which difficulties develop and are maintained. Rather than locating a problem solely within one person, sessions provide an opportunity to understand what is happening between people and how each person’s responses can become part of a larger pattern.

Family therapy can be useful when difficulties are affecting relationships within a family, when a young person is experiencing significant mental health difficulties, or when family members are struggling to understand and respond to one another. It can also be helpful when an individual problem cannot be meaningfully separated from the relationships and circumstances around them.

Why are family therapy sessions 90 minutes?

Family sessions generally involve more people, more perspectives and considerably more material than an individual psychotherapy appointment. The additional time allows everyone an opportunity to be heard, while giving sufficient space to explore the patterns between people rather than simply addressing the immediate issue that brought the family to therapy.

For this reason, systemic family therapy appointments are ordinarily scheduled for 90 minutes.

Medicare Rebates

Systemic Family Therapy is not presently eligible for a Medicare rebate under the Better Access initiative.

As a result, a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan cannot be used to claim a Medicare rebate for family therapy sessions.

Family therapy is available as a private billing service, and you do not need a GP referral to make an appointment.
